Interested in getting a medical marijuana card? Here are some things to know right from the start. To be eligible, you must be at least 18 years of age and have a valid Missouri ID. Applicants under 18 can qualify if they’re emancipated or have a parent or legal guardian to act as a caregiver. It costs $25 to apply for a Missouri MMJ card, which is valid for one year.

Medical Marijuana Eligibility

Eligibility for a medical marijuana card also depends on having one of the state’s qualifying medical conditions, which include:
•Cancer
•Epilepsy
•Glaucoma
•Intractable Migraines that don’t respond to other treatment
•HIV/AIDS
•Severe or persistent pain/muscle spasms (including but not limited to those associated with multiple sclerosis, seizures, Parkinson’s disease, and Tourette’s syndrome
•Psychiatric disorders (including but not limited to PTSD)
•A chronic medical condition typically treated with prescription medication that could lead to physical or psychological dependence
•Any terminal illness
•ALS
•Inflammatory bowel disease
•Crohn’s disease
•Huntington’s disease
•Sickle cell anemia
•Autism
•Alzheimer’s disease agitation
•Neuropathies

•In a doctor’s judgement, any chronic, debilitating or other medical condition, including hepatitis C

Get A Doctor’s Recommendation For Your Medical Marijuana Card

To get an MMJ card, your first big step is to make an appointment for an evaluation with a registered physician of good standing in Missouri. During this session, the doctor will ask you questions and review your medical records to learn about your existing qualifying conditions (see above). Some physicians will schedule a teleconference instead of having you come to their office. After the evaluation, you’ll need the doctor to complete a Physician Certification Form and submit it electronically to the state.

Fill Out An Online Application For Your Medical Marijuana Card

Once your doctor approves you, you’ll receive a recommendation via email. Your next step is to visit the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services online, where you’ll need to fill out an application within 30 days of the date on your doctor’s recommendation.

Get Approval And Print Out Your Medical Marijuana Card

Once you’ve completed and submitted your MMJ card application, Missouri has up to 30 days to approve it. After you’re approved, you’ll receive an email with your Missouri Patient ID to print out. Because the state doesn’t issue physical cards, that’s all you need. Be careful to keep your medical marijuana card in a safe place!
